Juding Criteria

Judging Criteria

The 7th Zhang International Violin Competition is honoured to present a distinguished international jury panel. This diverse and highly experienced panel ensures that every performance is evaluated with the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and global perspective.

Jury Panel

  • ● Jury Chair: Professor Peter Shixiang Zhang, eminent violin pedagogue
  • ● Artistic Director: Charmian Gadd, acclaimed Australian violinist
  • ● Jury Members: Professors from prestigious music conservatories, experienced violin teachers, and leading pedagogy professionals

* For each age group, a dedicated panel of 3–5 jurors independently evaluates submitted videos. Every participant receives professional feedback and a detailed evaluation report.

Awards and Evaluation Principles

  • Independent Assessment: Each age group is assessed independently, with Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Participation Certificates awarded based solely on performance quality.
  • Merit-Based Standards: There is no fixed quota for awards; distinctions are granted entirely based on the artistic and technical excellence of the performance.
  • Comprehensive Evaluation: Jurors assess each performance from both technical (intonation, rhythm, tone quality) and artistic perspectives (musical expression, stage presence, impact).

Performance Requirements

  • Participants must perform with either the official piano accompaniment video provided on the website or a live piano accompaniment (unaccompanied repertoire is exempt).
  • The accompaniment video must not include additional violin tracks and cannot be edited.
  • Submissions that do not meet these requirements will not be scored, though participants will still receive a certificate of participation.

Evaluation Process

Independent Scoring

Each juror scores independently. The competition committee carefully compiles and verifies the results.

Final Determination

Awards are confirmed when more than half of the jurors in the group approve the result.

Outstanding Teacher
