Welcome to the Sixth International Zhang Violin Competition

A world-renowned professional violin competition, the Zhang Violin Competition has proudly hosted 16 successful editions, bringing together talented young musicians from around the world. Embracing the digital age, the competition has evolved into an innovative hybrid model, seemingly integrating online and offline participation since its 6th edition.

At the heart of this transformation is Professor Peter Shixiang Zhang, a visionary in violin education with over 70 years of expertise. His groundbreaking digital score blends traditional teaching excellence with modern technology, offering a systematic and scientifically designed practice framework. This revolutionary resource has set a new benchmark for violin education, making high-quality learning accessible to students worldwide.

Professor Zhang Shixiang is a distinguished violin educator of international acclaim. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he served on its faculty for nearly four decades until his retirement in 1995. Renowned for his pioneering teaching methods, he has nurtured numerous world-class violinists and translated several seminal violin works, significantly advancing violin education in China.

Artistic Director

Charmian Gadd OAM is an internationally acclaimed violinist and violist who has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras, including the Halle, Vienna Radio, Hong Kong, and BBC orchestras. She has collaborated with legendary conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin and Sir Neville Marriner.

Jury Panel

The Sixth International Zhang Violin Competition proudly presents a distinguished jury panel comprising renowned violin educators and performers worldwide. In addition to these esteemed figures, we are also delighted to welcome a new generation of young violin teachers who are passionate about digital music education and innovation. This diverse panel will assess performance videos submitted by participants across various groups, providing detailed reports. These reports will be shared with participants and their teachers, offering valuable insights and guidance for future musical growth.

Competition Registration Period: 20th February, 2025 - 15th May, 2025
Competition Results Announcement: 1st June 2025
Sydney Award Ceremony Concert: 19th July, 2025 (tentative)
Sydney Masterclasses and Activities: 12th -19th July, 2025 (tentative, specific events to be confirmed)

This year's competition will host a series of events, masterclasses, and the award ceremony concert in Sydney in July 2025. All participants are welcome to register for these activities. Gold Award recipients will have the opportunity to be invited to perform as soloists at the award ceremony concert or participate in masterclasses. The detailed schedule will be announced soon.
